Each day more than 590,000 people opt for Tehran subway network as their favorite means of transport to cut the long, heavily congested roads of Tehran short. Although subway system has been shortly implemented in Tehran, it has been proved to be a vital urban facility for a heavily populated city like Tehran with over 13 million inhabitants as well as being a reliable means of transportation to settle the issue of air pollution to a far extent and help dealing with problems concerning traffic circulation and transportation speed. Beside the reasonable fares, the ability of extending the subway network to suburban areas to provide commuters with a proper means of transport is another advantage of the system which is considered to be of utmost importance for people from all different walks of society. The construction of Tehran subway which had commenced in 1958, halted in 1978 due to Islamic revolution and after a fairly long suspension resumed in 1986. The first line of Tehran Subway was inaugurated in 1998 and in the same year the first train launched to serve a route crossing the city east-west wise. Since then the network has expanded persistently and now with approximately 79 kilometers of rail road and 36 stations is serving Tehran dwellers day in day out.
